Making the Ordinary Extraordinary
Life becomes much richer and more fun when we cherish 90% of everyday things.
It’s the everyday things that will make you happy. It’s about making the ordinary extraordinary.
Think about it—coffee in the morning, breakfast in bed, stretching your brain and body in yoga, walking the dog at dusk on a summer evening when things are cooling down, laughing with your kids, paddling out for a surf on a quiet Wednesday afternoon on a school day. These moments are the true essence of joy.
Don’t live your life for that one vacation a year. People often discuss their “bucket list” as if happiness is a series of delayed gratifications that may never come. If you want to live near the beach, move there. If you crave hiking in the mountains, find a place near a trailhead. If living in New York excites you, then do it. Don’t wait.
90% of life is in the everyday moments we often overlook and take for granted. I’m grateful that certain places never get old—the Golden Gate Bridge, the Flatirons as I drive into Boulder, or looking up at Table Mountain in Cape Town.
